Today, I’m celebrating my 30th birthday. That is a great point of time to summarize what I learned. In this issue, you will find a compilation of the most impactful lessons I learned.
Understanding your mission and long-term goals simplifies most of your choices
The younger your children, the more they need you
Give preference to those decisions that keep more opportunities and flexibility
Give preference to experience and opportunities instead of money
Raise yourself, not your children. They will learn from you
Responsibilities come before the reward
The well-known reward is limited
Understanding your and others' needs is the key to strong relationships
Compound interest works for your public activities (and other investments into yourself) in the same way as for regular investments
An emergency fund can save your nerves and mental health in critical moments
If high-risk investments are made, and there is a profit, take the size of the investments + 30% and play with the rest
Any risk (high/low) is acceptable but depends on % of capital under this risk
Make investments for the long term if this is not your day-to-day work (otherwise, name it trading and do not deceive yourself)
The more time you have, the more risk you can accept
Geopolitical risks exist
Work at places where you can impact the direction of movement in a certain amount at least relevant to your role
Even not accurate long-term planning makes more realistic short-term achievements
Think about Products, not Projects
Openness is the key to communication
Complex solutions must require motivation behind the complexity. Otherwise, prefer simple ones (even if they are not so beautiful)
All people have those who would like to read them
Before investments in the public market, try to find opportunities for investments in knowledge or skills to extend your space of opportunities
Build processes, hire, and delegate
As soon as you create an ad-hoc solution, start thinking about a systematic solution
IT does not exist without business behind
Soft skills are much harder to develop than hard skills
Make decisions on time but not too early, especially if they introduce limitations for you
Happiness can be felt only if you try unhappiness
Altercation is not as scary as ignoring needs
Life is not only about the past and future but also about the moment
